Keep in mind that counseling is good for you too. It may be helpful for those who are caring for sexual abuse survivors to have their own outlet to talk and share how they are doing. In a counseling relationship, you can share more specifically about how you’re emotionally handling this season. Be careful not to turn your counseling into a way to get advice for how to help. Instead, focus on you and things you can do to stay emotionally healthy. It’s extremely hard to process the evils of sexual abuse, and the darkness of it may become overwhelming. Actually, it will be overwhelming. Whatever tools you can use to stay emotionally healthy, use them all.
